Artist, Kate Colclaser, works mainly on abstract encaustic pieces influenced by the natural world and the amazing, often missed, elements found there. Works include inks, pastels, watercolor, original photographs and found objects. Then it is all layered and incorporated in wax.
There is always something interesting and inspirational to photograph or collect whether it is on a hike in the Blue Ridge Mountains or a trek across country or a walk through a local park. The work starts with a base layer of wax and the germ of an idea and then takes on a life of its own as it progresses.
